Bash the Rich

51ml2hedkdl_ss500_ Another new section, another self-explanatory category name. I've been in Malaysia for the past few days, and was suprised to see two pieces of graffitti in central Kuala Lumpur: 'Stop War, Start Class War' and 'Class War'. So, like some Pavlovian dog, I am now linking this great review by DK of Bash the Rich: True-Life Confessions of an Anarchist in the UK. Pavlovian because the book is by one of the founders of the UK anarchist group Class War (ring!), and DK provides a bit of history and context about the group to go along with the review... definitely looks like it's worth a read, and perhaps an eventual translation into Chinese...?

Cheers for the link. It'd be awesome if somebody (yourself?) translated this into Chinese, but I wonder if some of the context might be lost outside the UK. (The Free Wales Army seemed pretty strange even to me.)

Well without a exceptionally careful translation it would be a pretty pointless exercise, not to mention difficult. Would also definitely need an introduction explaining context, like many translations of books to other languages.

I'd rather have Bone's and CW's story available than the ubiquitous and inevitable Blair/Thatcher autobiographies that pop up. Call it widening the current cultural exchange or something.

"...without a exceptionally careful translation..."

Likely to be problematised by the less than exceptionally careful prooffreading of the original! I think it seemed entirely appropriate somehow, but I suspect it would make the job of a translator even more difficult.

Hello from London!

I did some work with a Russian guy from the Avtonom group, who is trying to translate Ian Bone's novel "Anarchist" into Russian.

The hardest bit is actually explaining who all the people mentioned in the novel are - the various celebrities, politicians, sports stars, and historical English figures.

Translating the Bash the Rich book would be hard work, but not impossible.
